SOCIETY OF PLAY
World Expo 2025, Serbian Pavilion • Japan, Osaka Kansai • 2025
The “Society of Play” exhibition at the Serbian Pavilion at EXPO 2025 in Osaka explores play as a universal force connecting creativity, learning and innovation across cultures and generations. Conceived as an immersive visitor journey, the exhibition invites visitors to rediscover play as a fundamental driver of human development and collaboration.
The project received international recognition, including the Silver Medal for Theme Development at the BIE Awards (Bureau International des Expositions) in the category of self-built pavilions up to 1500 m², as well as the Gold Award for Best Small Pavilion and the Silver Award for Best Technology Integration from The Experimental Design Authority.

Developed and produced by Galerija 12, the project included the conceptual development of the exhibition narrative, visitor journey design, interactive installations, as well as the production of digital media and audiovisual systems throughout the pavilion. Through a carefully choreographed sequence of spaces, visitors move through playful environments where physical interaction, storytelling and digital media merge into a unified experience.
At the core of the exhibition are kinetic marble-run installations that guide visitors through multiple narrative layers. These dynamic interactions connect stories of nature, science, sports and childhood experiences, demonstrating how play shapes creativity, resilience and innovation. By combining analog mechanisms with responsive media systems, visitors activate projections, trigger testimonials and engage with installations that transform play into a participatory storytelling tool.
